The Business Environment Council (BEC) and Coalition on Sustainable Tourism today launched Hong Kong's Great Outdoors Guide-Map, the first-ever most comprehensive bilingual eco-tourism guide-map that introduces best 55 nature and cultural destinations, as well as six popular itineraries with photos, map, transportation guide and travel tips.

Business Environment Council hosts Conference on Urban Regeneration - A Key to Hong Kong’s Sustainable Future
The Business Environment Council (BEC) staged today, a one-day conference titled: Urban Regeneration - A Key to Hong Kong's Sustainable Future. The event, staged at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, provided a timely platform for local and international experts to exchange views in advance of the government, consulting stakeholders on guidelines to be included in it's urban renewal strategy in 2006.

On 25 August 2005, the Business Environment Council organised a one day seminar to discuss various aspects of HK-BEAM (Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method. External speakers for the event included Professor John Burnett, Dr.T.M. Chung, Dr. W.L. Lee and Professor Daniel Chan, all from the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, and Mr. Rumin Yin from Ove Arup and Partners HK Ltd.) The seminar was attended by nearly 50 delegates from various disciplines in the building industry.

On-line Rating of Buildings' Environmental Friendliness to be Launched Before End 2005
The HK-BEAM Society today announced the coming launch of its "on-line" web-based tool that building developers, architects, engineers, property and facility managers can use to evaluate the environmental sustainability of their properties. Applicable to buildings of all types, the tool will be launched by October 2005 and will be available at no cost to the user.

Business Environment Council (BEC) today launched the 2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Environmental Performance to recognize environmental achievements of Hong Kong businesses in all scales, including manufacturing and services sectors. The Awards Scheme is now calling for entries and the deadline for application is 31 August, 2005.

HSBC Announces Winners of Hong Kong's First Corporate Social Responsibilty Awards for SMEs Dunwell Receives Top Award
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has awarded a total cash prize pool of HK$360,000 to 10 local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the prize presentation ceremony for "The SME Living Business Awards 2005". The Awards, developed with the support of the Business Environment Council, are in their first year and are the first of their type in Hong Kong. The Awards recognise the outstanding social and environmental performance of SMEs.

Business Environment Council Honors 18 Most Outstanding Eco-Products - Fook Tin, Megaman and Philips Receive Top Hong Kong Eco-Products Awards
The Business Environment Council (BEC) today hosted the Award Ceremony of the Hong Kong Eco-Products Award 2005 (HKEPA) at Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel. 18 outstanding Eco-products were selected from over 70 applications from a wide range of product categories, including industrial, electronics, home appliances, packaging, cleansing products and fertilizers, furniture and office supplies.

Urged Everyone to Take Greater Responsibility and Stronger Measures to Avoid Waste
The Business Environment Council (BEC) today hosted the second EnviroSeries conference: Sustainable Waste Management: Policies, Partnership & Prospects at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel to provide a cross-sector platform for government, policy makers, civil society and industry experts to debate and share views on this pressing technical, social and political issue in Hong Kong. At the current rate of municipal solid waste being produced from households, offices and other commercial and industrial premises, Hong Kong will be running out of landfill space in 6 to 10 years.

Result for the first election of ethical corporations in students’ eyes announced
On 29th March 2005, SEE Network announced the result of a pilot election of socially responsible companies in Hong Kong in students' eyes. The MTR Corporation Limited topped the list of the 33 Hang Seng Index constituents companies, followed by Cathay Pacific, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, CLP Holdings Limited and Hang Seng Bank as 455 students from 10 colleges and universities saw it.

BEC and Tourism Groups Urges abot Tsunami
The Business Environment Council (BEC) and the Hong Kong Sustainable Tourism Task Force (STTF) today brought together leaders from tourism groups at JW Marriott Hotel to call for a quick return of Hong Kong tourists to countries hit by the South Asia tsunami. Representatives from the Pacific Asia Travel Association, Maldives Tourism Promotion Board, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Tourism Malaysia, Sri Lanka Airlines and the Hong Kong Hotel Association all spoke earnestly on the subject.
