GREEN EQUIPMENT FINANCING.BEC is the designated partner assessing the eligibility of applicants of HSBC's Green Equipment Financing scheme. We review all applications in terms of resources consumption and pollution control and advise whether these are sufficient to address the environmental challenge. Qualified applicants can enjoy interest rebates and a principal repayment moratorium when taking out a new loan for purchasing green equipment.

BEC provides support in the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of ISO14 001, ISO 24 001 (for mainland corporations), SA8000 and other management systems, either stand-alone or integrated with existing systems for health & safety OHSAS18000, quality ISO9000. MARKETS & TECHNOLOGIES.BEC can provide technical and market research and feasibility studies to help you embrace new technologies for your own operations. PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION & BENCHMARKING. A wide range of frameworks and standards in the market place enable organizations to demonstrate their performance. Locally, BEC provides performance verification services for the Hong Kong Clean Air Charter, FHKI 1-1-1 Environmental Program and BEAM green building labelling. We can also benchmark your practices against established initiatives including AA1000, the Carbon Disclosure Project, Global Reporting Initiative, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Green Globe, various management systems, and product and process life cycle analysis to name but few.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY. Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) can be a prime cause of discomfort and illness in the workplace, impacting your competitiveness through increased absenteeism and reduced productivity. The BEC IAQ Solutions Centre is Hong Kong's first accredited Certificate Issuing Body (CIB) able to issue IAQ Certificates with a HKIAS accreditation mark.
The Business Environment Council Ltd IAQ Solutions Centre (BEC IAQ Solutions Centre) became Hong Kong's first accredited Certificate Issuing Body (CIB) in December 2007 under the Hong Kong Inspection Body Accreditation Scheme (HKIAS) of the Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) Executive. As such our IAQ certification and renewal services meet the strictest requirements for inspection and quality control, using properly calibrated equipment operated only by approved signatories and inspectors.
As from 1st February 2008, only accredited IAQ CIBs are able to issue IAQ certificates with a HKIAS accreditation mark to recognize the quality of their work. Premises owners and management companies are able to use dedicated IAQ certificates for display at their certified premises and in their communication materials.
The BEC IAQ Solutions Centre can assess all twelve of the IAQ objectives included in the Hong Kong SAR Government's Guidance Notes for IAQ Management in Offices and Public Places, namely: Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Respirable Suspended Particles, Nitrogen Dioxide, Ozone, Formaldehyde, Total Volatile Organic Compound, Radon and airborne bacteria, temperature, relative humidity and air movement.
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM.BEC initiated the Coalition on Sustainable Tourism (CoST) to seek a greater understanding of sustainable tourism and its environmental, social and economic benefits for local residents, government and visitors to Hong Kong. Representatives of CoST are drawn from tourism industry practitioners, NGOs, academics and government officials. CoST aims to provide a platform for building awareness of sustainable tourism issues and the positive steps to move Hong Kong in a Sustainable Tourism direction e.g. through projects, programs, practices and destination development management.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING.Staff development is a vital means of demonstrating corporate commitment and fostering a culture for sustainability. Our customized training packages provide needs-based, interactive, bilingual training through a blend of learning group exercises, site visits and multi-media training tools. We use the "training the trainer" approach, through which your delegates can take away and share new knowledge to their colleagues via CD-ROM or upload to your intranet. Seminars and workshops can be delivered at your premises or in our own state of the art 140-seat auditorium.

SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION - PUBLICATIONS & TRAINING.BEC is the exclusive Hong Kong agent for publications and training in sustainable buildings and construction from the UK Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA). Over 400 publications, training packages and videos are available in Hong Kong with themes such as sustainability indicators and procurement, lifecycle material impacts, rainwater and greywater use and costing environmental pollution. WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING.Waste management has never been more challenging than now with our landfills near full and waste management costs climbing. BEC offers comprehensive waste auditing services to help clients understand the quantities and costs of their waste and provide a basis for waste reduction strategies. Our specialists have conducted detailed composition analysis (including paper, plastics, glass, metal, food, chemical, and hazardous wastes, etc) at over 150 commercial and residential sites, helping to realize opportunities in waste separation, recycling, green purchasing, sub-contractor management and more. BEC also set up the Waste Management Committee for both business and government in realizing sustainable waste management.

In particular, BEC's flagship EnviroSeries conferences have provided a cross-sector platform for senior government officials, top business leaders and industry experts to share and contribute input to policies that shape the agenda for sustainability and competitiveness. Since 1992, EnviroSeries has attracted thousands of delegates from Hong Kong and overseas to meet with keynote speakers from the highest levels.

BEC China, in partnership with Shenzhen Energy Saving Association and Guangdong Association of Environmental Protection Industry, addresses energy and pollution related problems in the Pearl River Delta, as well as growing demands from the industrial sector for credible and cost-effective service providers. Our Shenzhen office provides energy efficiency and cleaner production services to Hong Kong-owned, China-owned and joint venture factories across the region.
The Beijing Representative Office provides a reliable nation-wide platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) accessing China by partnering with China Environmental Culture Promotion Association of the State Environmental Protection Administration. It also offers onsite support and partnership opportunities for BEC members, and promotes BEC's services and initiatives as mainland interest in the environment and sustainability grows.
