Sharing from Previous Interns

Robert Bultler of Wake Forest University, the United States (BSc in Business with a double-minor in Entrepreneurship and Global Trade and Business), Fall Intern 2008:
"I want to thank you for the amazing opportunity these past two months to intern at BEC. I have learned many things including how to write a press release and case study, how a BEAM assessment is done, the importance of marketing and communications for the overall success of an organization's products and services, and the internal workings of a successful and small organization. Furthermore, it was amazing and invigorating to work surrounded by such knowledgeable people working towards a better environment from the business angle.

"This internship has given me incredible exposure to the BEAM certification and sustianable building practices which has solidified my interest in pursuing sustianable building development upon graduation. It has been an honor receiving such an incredible international internship and for that I am extremely appreciative."

Casey Freeman of Duke University, the United States (BA in Political Science and International Comparatives Studies), Summer Intern 2008:
"Thank you so much for the opportunity to intern at BEC this summer. Although my time at BEC was brief, I truly learned a lot about both communications and the current efforts toward environmental sustainability. I especially appreciate the hours you spent with me going over my work. Your honest feedback enabled me to learn a lot in a short period of time, and your warm and generous spirit made the process truly constructive. I am leaving Hong Kong with the fondest of memories, and I seincerly hope our pathes cross again someday."

Thomas Galgano of Villanova University, the United States (Finance major and International Business minor), Spring Intern 2008:
"I want to start by saying that I've never done an internship before, and this is a completely new experience for me. I learned a great deal about corporate structure, business writing, web maintenance, co-worker relations, CSR, and international business. The experience working at BEC was invaluable and has given me insight that not many people my age have the opportunity to acquire. To be honest with you, I was nervous and little unsure about working at BEC, being that I turned down a private equity firm to do it. Looking back on my experience, and speaking with friends who did the PE firm, I have no regrets whatsoever. I was exposed to much more valuable work experience that they were by far. I want to thank you for your patience in taking time out of your busy schedule to help me along with my projects, impart business knowledge to me, and for being very amiable and easy to work with. Plenty of people gain work experience in different countries doing different things, but when I speak to future employers, I have the privilege of telling them about these 5 weeks I spent in Hong Kong doing hands on work that made a difference, and that’s the best work experience there is."

Ryan Tree of Syracuse University, the United States (Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises Marketing major), Spring Intern 2008:
"A combination of interesting projects and motivational colleagues made my time at BEC enjoyable. I have grown to understand the importance of our environment and now use what I have learned to look my personal experiences and professional career differently. My team and co-workers helped me to feel welcome and I received valuable feedback from my sponsor on all the tasks I set out to accomplish."

Patrick Lam of Hong Kong University (Education major), Summer Intern 2007:
"It has been the most rewarding and meaningful summer for me these past two months at BEC. I am very happy that I could put my web knowledge into good use. I've been empowered and entrusted with a wide range of duties ranging from content update, translation, system testing, technical support and graphic design." Everyday, I gain new perspective and valuable experience handling real corporate assignments and interacting with real professionals. While BEC is a non-profit organisation, they operate in a private-sector mode as a business association with noble objectiives and great efficiency. I have been much motivated by their energy, enthusiasm and commitment."

Colleen Fischer of Syracuse University, the United States, Summer Intern 2007:
"I have truly enjoyed my summer working at BEC gaining real world experience which is both inspiring and fulfilling. During my eight weeks of internship, I helped to prepare materials for BEC's major conferences, communications and website involving research, copywriting, editing and onsite support. I appreciated very much of the opportunity to work in a corporate environment with a dedicated team of professionals, who are generous to help and coach me."
