BEC launched the Business-led Initiative on Air Pollution in 2005. The objectives of the initiative are:

• To gather and disseminate published information on Hong Kong's air pollution issues as well as any ongoing and planned initiatives in order to raise awareness amongst BEC members.
• To provide support to members and other groups wishing to or already involved in programmes to reduce current air pollution levels.
• To launch key topic programmes to engage business, government and NGOs in order to form appropriate and effective partnerships that will address current and future issues in this area.

BEC's Publications

To date, a number of cases studies and reports have been produced:

• "Air Pollution Case Studies Report 2006" was issued in December 2006, consisting of best practice and new technology cases from Hong Kong and Mainland China.
• The paper entitled "Volatile Organic Compounds" was compiled in May 2006 to give detailed account of the nature of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and the significance of these substances in air pollution.
• A report named "Clean Energy for the Pearl River Delta" was produced in December 2005 to investigate how clean energy policy mechanisms help to improve air quality in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.
• "Air Pollution Case Studies Report 2005" was issued in October 2005 which comprised ten case studies on best practices and technologies from companies representing the transport, power, property and manufacturing sectors.
• A paper entitled "Market-Based Mechanisms to tackle air pollution in HK and the PRD" was produced in August 2005 explaining how emissions trading has been applied in the USA and China: The wider issues of climate change and carbon trading are also explored.
• A post EnviroSeries conference report "Living Under Blue Skies - Power and Transport Infrastructure in the PRD" was produced in June 2005 to summarize the speeches of the speakers from different sectors including Government official, transport, power and universities.
• An initial review entitled, "Living Under Blue Skies - A Review of Air Pollution in HK and the PRD" was produced and issued at the EnviroSeries conference, "Living Under Blue Skies - Power and Transport Infrastructure in the PRD", on the 12th May 2005.
