Case Study - Corporate Social Responsibility / Community Development

Each year Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) not only helps sponsor, but also manages an exhibit in the Kwai Tsing District Road Safety Campaign, orgainzed by the Kwai Tsing District Council.

Since 1990, HIT has been a co-organiser of the Articulated Vehicle Safety Campaign Carnival and the Commissioner for Transport Trophy. The event is supported by the Hong Kong Container Tractor Owner Association and the Hong Kong Institute of Advanced Motorists. It aims to raise the skill level of tractor drivers and to increase safety awareness of all those on the road. The Kwai Tsing District Office and Kwai Tsing Police District are also actively involved in this event.

By 1999, the Kwai Tsing District Council has started the district-wide road safety campaign, called the Kwai Tsing District Council Road Safety Campaign, where HIT is a major sponsor. This campaign involves many different activities to arouse the road safety sense, such as the Road Safety Slogan Competition, Safety Drawing Competition by student, Improve Driving Skill Course, Road Safety Talks and the Road Safety Carnival.

This campaign has become an annual event. All of these events benefits the drivers, local residents and the authorities. Initiatives like these help to keep the vital issue of road safety on peoples' mind. It also reminds the many different companies sending vehicles in and out of Kwai Chung of the importance of careful driving. The safe driving environment is also carried into the container terminal as rigorous safety measures are implemented in HIT's container yard.
