With the support of Business Environment Council (BEC) and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), the HSBC Living Business Award (link to HSBC LB website) is an annual award scheme recognising Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which manage their business responsibly and sensitively with regard to employees and other stakeholders, the community and the environment to ensure long-term business success.
Dr Andrew Thomson, Chief Executive Officer, Business Environment Council (BEC) said, "As the partner and assessor of the Living Business Awards in the past four years, we continue to be impressed by the strong commitment and effective practices demonstrated by award participants from a wide range of industries. They serve as fine examples to their peers, business partners, customers and the public that operating business responsibly is imperative to creating commercial success."
Since its launch in Hong Kong in 2004, HSBC Living Business Award helps SMEs become more competitive and productive by implementing socially and environmentally responsible business practices. The Award has expanded to other countries and territories including Singapore, Korea, Sri Lanka, India and France.
This year, for the first time, two new project-linked awards, “Outstanding Community Project Award” and “Outstanding Green Project Award”, were added to give further recognition to SMEs for their positive and sustainable impact on the Hong Kong community and environment by way of project initiatives.
BEC provides professional support on the assessment of the entrants, focusing on their performance in four key areas:
- Commitment to environmental protection
- Excellence in employee management
- Achievement in community development
- Overall management effectiveness
