The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited is committed to providing customers with a safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel.

In the 1970s, naphtha, which has very low sulphur content, was used to replace coal and heavy oil as feedstock in producing town gas. In 2006, in addition to naphtha, natural gas was introduced as feedstock to ensure a more stable supply of town gas, offer savings to customers, as well as reduce emissions: CO2 by 26% (107,000 tonnes), SOx by 40% (4.4 tonnes) and NOx by 42% (84 tonnes). In 2007, landfill gas was utilized as production fuel which could further save 43,000 tonnes of naphtha every year.

The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited has shown full commitment to a better environment through its continual efforts in reducing the environmental impact arising from its business operation. Introducing natural gas as feedstock and utilizing landfill gas has not only brought benefit to the environment, in particular reducing the release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. It can also ensure a more stable supply of town gas and offer savings to customers.
