Swire Coca-Cola Find Chiller Replacement a Win-Win Success

Swire Coca Cola, a member of the Swire Pacific Group of Companies implemented an energy and water efficiency program by replacing air-cooled water chillers with more efficient water-cooled water chillers, and using recycled water as make-up water for cooling towers.

Program Costs and Benefits

• The cost of the program was HK$ 3.24 million
• Annual savings in electricity were around HK$0.8 – HK$1 million (actual saving depends on actual annual consumption)
• Payback period: approximately 3.6 years.

Intangible Benefits: New water-cooled A/C system uses environmental friendly refrigerants to avoid damaging the ozone layer. Use of recycled water uses resources more efficiently.

Lessons Learned
Energy saving projects not help the environment, but also reduce operating expenses of any organization.
