I joined Business Environment Council on Dec 1 2008. There are no paper cups but fair trade coffee. On every Wednesday, the air conditioning is switched off to measure the temperature and humidity. What are also new to me including GOT and green party.

A green office team (GOT) with representatives from each department was set up in Nov 2008 to develop and implement green office practice. The first campaign was launched in Dec 2008 to minimize resource consumption and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of waste recycling, such as use double-sided printing and reduce printing, monitor paper consumption, use electronic communication forms, review and upgrade current recycling facilities and monitoring, etc. A Green Corner was developed in the office and intranet for displaying green tips and news.

I also joined and help organized the first green Christmas party which was clear eco-conscience. It was a cool party with a reduced carbon footprint. The green theme included sourcing locally and supporting organic food, reduced using of air conditioning, carbon neutral, cool decorations and festive entertainment. Calculating the carbon footprint by BEC’s professionals, about 300kg of carbon was produced for this 50-pax party. My team members took carbon neutrality as their goal and voluntarily offset the carbon emission by the change of behaviour at home and office. I personally have replaced home lightings with eco-friendly bulbs, and used shopping bags.

We all have responsibilities to help reduce our impact on the environment. Let's work together to make our planet a better place.
