Setting a Platform for Employees to Walk the Talk

Our Climate Care Staff Campaign in 2008 was designed to help promote our Climate Vision 2050 within the company. While we take serious action to deliver our commitment to combat climate change, we actively prepare our people, who are an instrumental force in bringing our vision to fruition, to shift to a mindset that departs from “business as usual”.

The campaign included:

  • a Kick-off Ceremony attended by over 400 staff from seven locations in the Asia Pacific region via videoconferencing, represented a successful example of how we can reduce our carbon footprint. Managing directors and colleagues from each region gave creative presentations about how they shoulder their part to combat climate change.
  • a Climate Care Idea Competition that received over 600 submissions from our staff on creative ideas to promote climate-friendly behaviour and ways to reduce carbon emissions at home and at work. The top three winners won a scholarship of HK$5,000 each, for them or their family members to pursue further studies on climate change or environmentally related subjects.
  • a 'Learn and Play' Series – six animated episodes and online games – was released on our company intranet to enhance colleagues’ understanding on climate change and our Climate Vision 2050, was visited by over 3000 staff members.

We will continue the momentum by sharing widely our staff’s innovative ideas both internally and externally. Good ideas collected from the competition are on display to encourage environmentally friendly practices to staff and visitors. The interactive ‘Learn & Play’ educational materials have been transformed into game kiosks, which were showcased at CLP’s annual staff family event - Safety, Health and Environment Day (SHE Day) and CLP’s public website PowerU (www.clpgroup.com/PowerU) in an attempt to reach out to the wider public.
