Plant a Tree, Love the Earth
CLP has a longstanding tradition of greening our environment. Since the last decade, we have planted 1.6 million trees in Hong Kong and have pioneered a number of innovative tree programmes, including vegetation management and Sky Woodland.
In 2008, we took our tree planting activity to a new step by announcing a plan to plant 1 million trees over 5 years around the region where we have operations. This commitment is underpinned by a series of care and wellness programmes to ensure that the trees not only grow in a healthy way, but also benefit the ecological, social and economic landscapes of their living environments. By the end of the year, we met our 2008 regional target of planting over 250,000 trees, spread across Hong Kong, Guangdong and Sichuan in China, Khunom in Thailand and Gujarat in India.
In addition to supporting our Climate Vision 2050, the CLP tree planting programme also provides a conduit to unite local authorities and communities to gain and share experience, based on a structured approach - from objective setting to planning to auditing and monitoring of the growth of the vegetation. CLP’s vegetation and forestry experts work together with local authorities, civic groups and students in each of the local communities, at various stages to plan, plant and audit the progress of the tree planting programme. CLP’s commitment to providing expertise support for knowledge sharing opportunities, has given thousands of participants the opportunity to learn more about tree growth and how it affects their local socio-economic environment, as well as increasing awareness of the impact of global climate change.
