The Hong Kong Awards for Industry and the Hong Kong Awards for Services were established in 1989 and 1997 respectively to recognise and encourage excellence as well as to promote successful practices and strategies in different aspects of industrial and service performance. A milestone is reached in 2005 with the merging of the two Awards Schemes into the "Hong Kong Awards for Industries". The merged Awards Scheme will:
- continue to seek to recognise the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in their move towards higher technology and higher value-added activities;
- raise the profile of Hong Kong manufacturing and services sectors both locally and internationally;
- promote competitiveness of enterprises and encourage their pursuit of excellence in product design, machinery and equipment design, customer service, environmental performance, innovation and creativity, productivity and quality, and technological achievement.
The Awards Scheme covers seven categories each of which is organised by an industry-related organisation. The Director-General of Trade and Industry chairs the organising committee of the Awards Scheme and the Hong Kong Productivity Council is the Secretariat.

Benefits for Participants
For each category the organiser forms its own judging panel by drawing on experts in the relevant area of industrial performance. The final judging panel will decide on the winners. For each award category, there are one Grand Award, and a number of second-tier Awards and Certificates of Merit, to be presented at an awards presentation ceremony.
Winning the Hong Kong Awards for Industries identifies an organisation as being committed to the pursuit of excellence, and producing quality products and services in which customers can have full confidence. All winners will be entitled to display the official logo of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries and receive the Hong Kong Awards for Industries trophy/Certificate.
