On 25 October 2011, about 50 business leaders attended the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS) breakfast briefing organized by Business Environment Council (BEC) at The American Club.

Mr Vincent Kwan, Director and General Manager of Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited, highlighted the good market recognition and positive feedback received since the launch of HSSUS. He introduced the latest development of the HSSUS and how the HSSUS constituents have raised awareness and improved the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance.

Ms Evelyn Chan, Environmental Projects Manager of Cathay Pacific Airways, explained how HSSUS is a useful benchmark that helps the company to improve its sustainable development performance. She shared several challenges that Cathay Pacific have encountered and how they have overcame the hurdles.

Dr Margaret Burnett, Head of Corporate Sustainability of BEC, discussed the value of Socially Responsible Investment (SRIs). She explained with evidence on how sustainability-focused firms whose business approach emphasizes sustainability outperform industry players and the ways in becoming one of the green winners.
