HSBC Living Business Awards Presentation Ceremony 2006

With the support of Business Environment Council (BEC) and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), the HSBC Living Business Awards 2006 Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 24 July 2006 at HSBC Main Building to announce the Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire Awards winners as well as the winners of the Certificate of Excellence and Certificate of Merit.

This annual award scheme recognizes socially and environmentally responsible small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Hong Kong. It is the only award scheme focusing on corporate social responsibility (CSR) targeting SMEs in Hong Kong. As the partner organization, it is the second year BEC involves in the Awards as the sole assessor.

This year, close to 80 applications were received from a wide range of industries including wholesale & retail, health, education, tourism, catering and financial service etc. They are all able to demonstrate how companies with limited resources can put CSR into practice through innovation and proactive planning.

The Awards assessed the achievement of applicants in four areas: commitment to environmental protection, excellence in employee management, achievements in community development and overall management effectiveness. All participants can gain a self evaluation opportunity of their business operation through completing the user-friendly "checklist" style application form. Award winners can also gain wide recognition as a responsible business through media coverage and the Awards presentation ceremony. Most importantly, embracing CSR can enhance their competitive edge and company's image.
