Milestones

2021
  • BEC co-launches the Power Up Coalition, a BEC Low Carbon Charter initiative which is the first-of-its-kind coalition to address decarbonisation challenges specific to the construction sector in Hong Kong. The initiative encourages the timely electrification of non-public works construction sites in Hong Kong and to promote zero-emission construction sites.
  • The BEC Low Carbon Charter reaches 100 signatories.
  • BEC launches the Leadership Forum Series with Invest Hong Kong to organise webinars on latest policies related to sustainable development in Hong Kong.
  • BEC is recognised as a Carbon Neutrality Partner by the Environment Bureau for its supports and efforts in decarbonising Hong Kong.
2022
  • BEC is accredited as a WELL Performance Testing Organisation (“WELL PTO”), being the first Hong Kong-based non-profit organisation offering the service. BEC is also pleased to achieve the WELL Health-Safety Rating (“WELL HSR”) for Facility Operations and Management of its Jockey Club Environmental Building (“JCEB”)
2023
  • BEC Building, formally known as Jockey Club Environmental Building, achieves the top Final Platinum rating under BEAM Plus Existing Buildings Version 2.0 Comprehensive Scheme.
  • BEC Low Carbon Charter is rebranded as BEC Net-zero Carbon Charter to align with Hong Kong’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal and the business imperative towards net zero.
  • BEC collaborates with Network of Environmental Student Societies (“NESS”) to organise the first-ever “BEC X NESS Green Jobs Fair 2023”, in response to the surging demand for ESG and sustainability professionals in the local green job market.
  • BEC and Harbour Business Forum co-organise “Victoria Harbour 2035: Destinations to Rejuvenate Hong Kong” design competition to encourage students to convey their strategic vision for the harbourfront.
2024
  • BEC initiates Hong Kong Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition in response to the Chief Executive’s 2024 Policy Address. The initiative aims to spearhead the decarbonisation of the aviation industry and position Hong Kong as a regional and global hub for sustainable aviation fuel (“SAF”).
  • BEC co-organises “Jockey Club Energy Saver in Schools Projects” with BEAM Society Limited and Hong Kong Green Building Council. Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and supported by the Environment and Ecology Bureau, Development Bureau, and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the project assists schools in energy saving and educates the younger generation on the importance of green buildings.
  • BEC publishes its Net-zero Carbon Charter Progress Report 2023, highlighting the decarbonisation efforts undertaken by BEC and the Charter signatories. 
  • BEC releases its Policy Whitepaper on SAF Strategy for Hong Kong, outlining critical recommendations on the roadmap and solutions for the transition to upscale the development of SAF in Hong Kong.
