BEC Sustainability Report 2024 Showcases Commitment to Practising and Enabling Sustainability for a Net-Zero Future

Business Environment Council Limited (“BEC”) today published its Sustainability Report 2024, detailing the organisation’s commitment to environmental excellence and its strategic efforts to drive the business community to transform for Hong Kong’s transition to a sustainable and net-zero future. 

Covering the fiscal period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2024, the report outlines BEC’s sustainability strategies, environmental performances and social impact across its Environmental Focus Areas. During the reporting period, BEC delivered 227 environmental projects, organised 75 events and seminars, and issued 11 policy submissions, addressing critical environmental topics such as the municipal solid waste charging scheme, the ban on disposable plastic tableware, the enhancement of climate-related disclosures, and so on. The report also highlights BEC’s expanding influence, with its membership surpassing 300 organisations, marking a milestone in the promotion of environmental excellence in the society, and further reinforcing its role as a trusted partner of the business sector in advancing sustainability. 

Mr Kevin O'Brien, Chairman of BEC, shared in the Report, “The past few years have been marked by significant shifts in our global landscape, particularly regarding climate change, resource scarcity, and social equity. As we embrace these changes, BEC aims to catalyse business engagement by fostering cross-sector collaborations and promoting best practices that align with both local and international sustainability goals. We will continue to work on our Environmental Focus Areas, actively contributing to the development of policies and frameworks that support sustainable growth.”
