BEC is presenting the "Business Discussion Forum – Biodiversity and Water" on 13 August 2014 (Wednesday). The Forum provides an opportunity for BEC members to better understand the impact of biodiversity and water on businesses, and also to exchange views and insights. We are pleased to have Mr. Mike Kilburn, member of the BSAP Steering Committee, to give us a presentation on BSAP and the impact of biodiversity on the business community.

Biodiversity is becoming a relevant issue for businesses as it brings about changing consumption patterns, new business opportunities and notable impact on the development agenda. As a government-community collaboration, the Environment Bureau and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department have embarked on an exercise to develop a BSAP under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Apart from biodiversity, there have also been increasing concerns on ensuring the sustainable use of water as a precious natural resource. The Water Supplies Department has been promoting water saving measures as part of a total water management strategy for Hong Kong, with the aim of managing water demand and supply in an integrated, multi-sectoral and sustainable manner.

The comments generated from this Forum will help BEC to formulate views on these topics in future policy submissions to the Government.
