The Environment Bureau announced the Waste Blueprint for Hong Kong 2035 early this year, and the Municipal Solid Waste charging bill was recently legislated. As Hong Kong steps up its effort to reduce waste, this second webinar under the Leadership Forum Series will focus on how innovation and partnership can help eliminate waste and improve resource utilisation. Our keynote speaker, Secretary for the Environment Mr K.S. Wong, and other local experts and practitioners will share their views and experiences on preventing waste generation, through creating innovative solutions and investing in the circular economy.

Mr K.S. Wong
Secretary for the Environment, Hong Kong SAR Government

Mr K.S. Wong was born in 1963 and graduated from the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong.  He received further education on sustainable built environment in the postgraduate program from the University of British Columbia in Canada.  He assumed the post of the Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government on 1 July 2012.

As an architect by profession, Mr Wong has been promoting sustainable built environment since 1990s.  His designs and researches on sustainable built environment have won him various local, regional and international awards.  He served as the founder Chairman of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, and has contributed to the promotion and research of the standards and guidelines for sustainable built environment applicable to the high-density urban environment of Hong Kong.

During his tenure as the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong has launched and updated a number of policy blueprints covering air quality, waste management, energy saving, climate actions and biodiversity.

 

Mr Nigel Mattravers
Director, ALBA Integrated Waste Solutions (Hong Kong) Limited

Nigel is the Director of ALBA Integrated Waste Solutions (Hong Kong) Limited. He is a chartered civil engineer and waste manager with more than 40 years’ international experience which has included both engineering and finance. 

Nigel has particular expertise in the waste and resource management sector and has been responsible for studies, design, finance, project management of numerous resource management studies and schemes in Hong Kong and United Kingdom. In Hong Kong, he has been responsible for leading many of the major resource management schemes completed to date and studies into reuse of materials as part of the circular economy.

 

Ms Suki Cheung
Director – Corporate Communications, Global Commerce and Sustainability, CN Logistics International Holdings Limited

A well-known champion speaker and trainer in Hong Kong, China, and Asia Pacific, specializing in modern supply chain and business transformation.

Suki Cheung is now the Director in Hong Kong listed company overseeing the group’s external communications, including corporate branding initiatives, reputation management, media and stakeholder relations, digital and social communications, issue and crisis management, sustainability reporting and corporate social responsibility initiatives. She is also responsible for business development especially in eCommerce and international cross border solutions.

Her public engagement currently includes co-opted member for Hong Kong Speaker Bureau, committee member for Hong Kong Management Association, senior advisor for Wofoo Leadership Network, mentors for The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong. She was a founding board member of C2 Master of Ceremonies in the early 2010s, having chaired the ethics committee for its first year. She is also a certified master practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming and bachelor’s degree in business administration in University of Sunderland. Suki also received awards in Public Speaking, Master of Ceremonies and Distinguished Salesperson Award (DSA) throughout her career.

Inspiring by United Nations, Suki actively involved in social innovation and hope to drive positive social change and resolve urban challenges through sustainable business solutions.

With over 20 years’ experience in business transformation across Hong Kong, Greater China and Asia Pacific, she is now a key member of the Hong Kong leadership team and works closely with her peers to drive the company’s transformation.

 

Dr Peter Lee
Director of R&D, Nano & Advanced Materials Institute, Ltd.

Dr Peter Lee oversees the market segment of Environment, having successfully driven development and commercialization of technologies in air and water purification, green coatings, waste recycling as well as biodegradable materials. He received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Before joining NAMI, Dr Peter Lee had worked in the semiconductor and photovoltaic industries in the US for more than 20 years. He has over 30 publications and holds more than 30 patents.

 

Ms Devana Ng
Co-Founder, Invisible Company

Devana is the co-founder of Invisible Company, launched #INVISIBLEBAG which is water-soluble, biodegradable and compostable packaging in 2020 May, aiming to bring alternative solutions to brands and manufacturers to replace the conventional plastic packaging with eco-friendly materials. She is actively promoting Eco With Attitude to brands and consumers, on how to reduce waste and through daily actions for a better and plastic free living. With Invisible Co Team, she is working on new material development to cover more product applications, with the DNA of creating #INVISIBLE packaging on its afterlife, leaving on trace on earth.

 

Ms Carmen Ng
Director of Sustainability, Langham Hospitality Group

Carmen Ng is Director of Sustainability at Langham Hospitality Group. In her role, she leads and drives the sustainability strategy within the Group. She is responsible for a diverse range of sustainability programmes including strategy and policies development, management system, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, communication and reporting. She also believes in sustainability is everyone’s responsibility and her role is implanting this concept like a DNA into every colleague in the company.

Prior to joining Langham Hospitality Group, she was the Environmental Manager of EC Harris, the facility management company for the entire HSBC portfolio in Hong Kong. With over 20 years professional experience in environmental sustainability, Carmen gained her corporate environmental expertise by working for private consultancies in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, the local NGO (Business Environment Council), and the government authority (Environmental Protection Department, HKSAR). Carmen completed her BSc Environment Studies in University of Southern California and MSc Environmental Science in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

 

Mr Allan Wong
Director, Chun Shing Development (Hong Kong) Limited

Member of the Council for Sustainable Development, Executive chairman of Hong Kong Scrap Plastic Association, Director of Chun Shing Development (Hong Kong) Limited.

Allan first started his recycling career in Guangzhou 2005 and came back to Hong Kong to start Chun Shing in 2013, apart from business operation, he also concerns about the local waste management policies especially in plastic waste management and recycling.

Mr Andy Wong
Head of Innovation & Technology, Invest Hong Kong

Mr Andy Wong is the Head of Innovation and Technology at InvestHK.  He leads a team of technology specialists to focus on attracting and facilitating overseas investments in Hong Kong for setting up and expanding their business operations.  His key focused technology clusters include biomedical, medical devices, healthcare services, AI and robotics, microelectronics and environmental. 

Mr Wong has wealth strategy consulting and business development experience in the technology sector.  Prior to InvestHK, Mr Wong was a consulting director at PwC and at Cisco Systems where he led the technology consulting team to help corporate undertake business transformation through applications of advanced technologies and best practice processes.

Mr Wong graduated from the University of Birmingham, the UK in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and has a Master Degree in Business and Accounting from the University of New South Wales, Australia.  Mr Wong is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a CPA from Australia.
