BEC is co-organising a series of events in 2021 under the Leadership Forum Series, to facilitate multi-stakeholder discussion on key environmental policies spearheaded by Environment Bureau. This first webinar will focus on the recently announced the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles. Secretary for the Environment Mr K.S. Wong and other industry experts will share their thoughts on the latest EV technologies, charging solutions for commercial EVs and the challenges faced by different sectors in implementing the roadmap.

Mr K.S. Wong Mr K.S. Wong was born in 1963 and graduated from the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong. He received further education on sustainable built environment in the postgraduate program from the University of British Columbia in Canada. He assumed the post of the Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government on 1 July 2012. As an architect by profession, Mr Wong has been promoting sustainable built environment since 1990s. His designs and researches on sustainable built environment have won him various local, regional and international awards. He served as the founder Chairman of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, and has contributed to the promotion and research of the standards and guidelines for sustainable built environment applicable to the high-density urban environment of Hong Kong. During his tenure as the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong has launched and updated a number of policy blueprints covering air quality, waste management, energy saving, climate actions and biodiversity.

Mr Andy Wong Mr Andy Wong is the Head of Innovation and Technology at InvestHK. He leads a team of technology specialists to focus on attracting and facilitating overseas investments in Hong Kong for setting up and expanding their business operations. His key focused technology clusters include biomedical, medical devices, healthcare services, AI and robotics, microelectronics and environmental. Mr Wong has wealth strategy consulting and business development experience in the technology sector. Prior to InvestHK, Mr Wong was a consulting director at PwC and at Cisco Systems where he led the technology consulting team to help corporate undertake business transformation through applications of advanced technologies and best practice processes. Mr Wong graduated from the University of Birmingham, the UK in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and has a Master Degree in Business and Accounting from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Mr Wong is a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a CPA from Australia.

Dr Lawrence Cheung Dr Lawrence Cheung has over 30 years of experience in managing research and development and consultancy business portfolio. In HKPC, he currently manages a broad collection of business functions on technology research and development as well as consultancy services in smart living, automotive, 5G applications, gerontech, green living technology, testing, food processing, Chinese medicine, FutureSkills training as well as SME and Start Up support. He is respectively a Member of Steering Committee of New Energy Transport Fund, Assessment Committee of Green Tech Fund, and Awards Committee on the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence, all in the Environmental Protection Department. Prior to joining HKPC, Dr Cheung was living in Australia holding a senior research position in Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia. He obtained Bachelor of Engineering with 1st class honours and Bachelor of Science degrees from Monash University in Australia. His doctorate degree on Computer Imaging research was also from Monash University. Dr Cheung joined HKPC in 1996.

Prof Eric Cheng Prof Eric Cheng obtained his BSc and PhD degrees both from the University of Bath in 1987 and 1990 respectively. Before he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1997, he was with Lucas Aerospace, United Kingdom as a Principal Engineer and led a number of power electronics projects. His research interests include power distribution, power security, power electronics, motor drives, electromagnetic interference, electric vehicle, battery management, and energy saving. Prof Cheng received the IEE Sebastian Z De Ferranti Premium Award in 1995, the Outstanding Consultancy Award in 2000, the Faculty Merit Award for best teaching in 2003 from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Faculty Engineering Industrial and Engineering Services Grant Achievement Award in 2006, the Brussels Innova Energy Gold Medal with Mention in 2007, the Consumer Product Design Award in 2008, the Electric Vehicle Team Merit Award of the Faculty in 2009, Silver Medal for the contribution of Solar Air Conditioning for vehicles at Geneva Invention Expo in 2011 and Eco Star Award in 2012, Gold Prize in Super-capacitor at Seoul International Invention (2015), Gold medal for contribution in active suspension in iCAN (2016) and Silver Medal in All electric antilock braking system in Generva (2021). His research interests are all aspects of power electronics and electric vehicles. Prof Cheng is a chartered engineer and a fellow of HKIE, IEEE and IET.

Mr Gary Leung Gary is the Head of Operational Planning Department of The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB”), the largest franchised bus operator in Hong Kong. Gary joined KMB in 2013 as a full-time Bus Captain. He subsequently transferred to the back office of KMB to work on bus network planning and restructuring. Gary also served as the project managers of various special projects, including the KMB Monthly Pass which was introduced in 2018. He currently oversees the planning, scheduling and rostering sections of KMB. Prior to joining KMB, Gary was a Manager of the Valuation and Modelling Section (Corporate Finance) of KPMG. He graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with BSc in Quantitative Finance in 2008.

Mr Cliff Wu Cliff joined Hong Kong EV Power Limited (“EV POWER”) in March 2014 and is currently the General Manager for the company directing multidisciplinary teams, managing daily operations, R&D, company P&L and strategic decisions, as well as taking forward the investment and development of EV charging infrastructure in Hong Kong and Macau. With over 10 years of extensive experience in engineering project management on infrastructure deployment of electrical systems, telecommunication and broadcasting networks in a territory-wide scale, Cliff has been contributing substantially in formulating diversified electric vehicle (“EV”) charging solutions as well as developing the one-stop EV charging service platform ("E-CHARGE") and the associated ecosystem. Under his leadership, EV Power is currently the leading EV Charging Solution Provider and Charging Network Operator in Hong Kong and Macau, especially in passenger car sector, providing comprehensive and diversified EV charging solutions to customers. In the past few years, his team has completed plenty of remarkable EV charging projects and been working closely with governments, power utilities, airports, land developers, automakers, car dealerships, green organizations and EV enthusiasts for the promotion of wider use of EVs in Hong Kong and Macau. Cliff is an advocate for green and sustainable technologies. Currently, he is a committee member of The Hong Kong E-Vehicles Business General Association (“HKEVA”) and also a committee member of the Sustainable Living Environment Advisory Group for the Business Environment Council (“BEC”). Cliff graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree and a Master of Philosophy degree in Electronic Engineering in 2005 and 2008 respectively. He is also a credential holder of Project Management Professional (PMP)® since 2014.

Mr Keith Wong Mr Keith Wong is the Head of Digital Business and Electrical Products in Siemens HK & Macao’s Smart Infrastructure Division. He has over 13 years experience in protection, control automation, smart grid technology, product life cycle management and HV power plant maintenance. Keith is recently focusing on the digital grid, energy automation and grid edge technology in the Smart City and power systems applications. He is leading the changes in digital transformation across different business units, by formulating the sustainable and growth-oriented business strategies and execution plans. In addition to his formal duties, Keith is also contributing to the society through engineering institution. Recently, he is Committee and Co-opted of HKIE Electronics Division and Electrical Division, and also the Deputy Head of Smart Technology Development Specialist Group in Society of Operations Engineers (HK Region). Keith is a Chartered Engineer and an experience project manager who obtained PMP® certification. He has the proven experience in leading multinational and cross-functional team to achieve challenging business and project goals. He was responsible for the world largest digital power asset management solution, including the implementation of Reliability Centered Asset Management model to determine the asset Health Index (HI), condition-based maintenance, refurbishment and replacement interval. His professional experience includes the combination of Sales, Operations, Business Planning and Business Development.

Mr Benjamin Wong Mr Benjamin Wong is the Head of Transport, Infrastructure and Advanced Manufacturing at Invest Hong Kong, the Government department responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign direct investment. He has a much diversified portfolio covering advanced manufacturing, re-industrialisation, infrastructure, aviation, maritime, mass transit, logistics, energy and natural resources. Mr Wong’s contribution in promoting Hong Kong’s various sectors has helped sustaining and growing these industries in HK and Asia. He has collaboration with the business communities and government counterparts on promoting HK as the conduit and enabler of major initiatives such as the Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative. He has also been working closely with the Transport Bureau in promoting HK as the international transport hub. With the establishment of the Maritime and Port Board, the collaboration is even closer. He is a member of the Maritime and Port Board’s Maritime and Port Development Committee, Manpower Development Committee and Promotion and Event Committee. With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, Mr Wong’s expertise combines business knowledge, economic development, international marketing and investment promotion. Before joining InvestHK, Mr Wong has spent over ten years with major European and American companies with regional responsibilities. Mr Wong holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong; a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta, Canada. He has also attended Peking University’s National Affairs Studies Programme and exchange programme at Shanghai Fudan University. Mr Wong is a lifetime member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Society, an international academic honour society; and he is also the Alumni Career Advisor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
