BEC brings you an industry visit to The Hong Kong Golf Club (“the Club”) at Fanling. The Club is a strong believer that golf course land can bring a positive impact on the environment by taking an eco-friendly approach to its maintenance procedures. Astonishing sights we can find on the Old Course at Fanling include rare and ancient trees such as the critically endangered Chinese Swamp Cypress, the Club’s Butterfly Garden and a Grade III historic building – the Old Course Halfway House. Two sessions will be run on 13 April (Thursday) and 14 April (Friday) in Cantonese and English respectively. Join us to learn more about the unique environment and history of the Club.

Visit Highlights:

  • Butterfly Garden - nearly half of the 240 butterfly species found in Hong Kong have been recorded at the Club, including the rare and protected Golden and Common Birdwing butterflies
  • Wild Chinese Swamp Cypress Grove – 38 trees out of 250 can be found on the Old Course according to the IUCN, these critically-endangered species predate the golf course and are up to 220 years of age
  • Halfway House - a Grade III historic building constructed in 1916 which adopts a roof design often found in ancient Chinese royal buildings
  • Heritage Trees - home to a great many trees that date back well over a century, including particularly fine examples of Banyan and Camphor species
